In 1988 Sony teamed up with Nintendo to make a CD-ROM game system that would be called the Super Disc.  But there plans feel threw.  So in 1991 Sony made some modifications to the Super Disc and made a system called the Playstation.

These CD-ROM games that where made by Sony and Phillips, where called CD-ROM/XA. As well as games the PlayStation could play CD's.  With PlayStation becoming a success, Song decided to retool after making about 200 systems.  With the new PlayStation, the gaming community switched from cartridge games to CD-ROM games.  With PlayStation having better graphics, better games and at a cost that was affordable.  Sony PlayStation quickly became the most popular game system out on the market.  Then in 2001 PlayStation revised the PlayStation by making the   PlayStation 2 or better known as P2.

And to this day some game critics say is still the better gaming system on the market.  All information on the history or PlayStation has been brought to you by www.howstuffworks.com .
