Easter Monday (Dyngus Day)
- - This is one day in the year when
people use lots of water. This is due to an old custom which is still done
by some villages. There are two versions: one is being lightly washed,
the other is having buckets of water harshly poured.
The custom of pouring water is an old custom of cleansing, purification,
and fertility. The Poles fought with nature (a god called Dingen) by pouring
water and switching with willows to make themselves pure for the coming
year.
