A trend like this definitely
has both advantages and disadvantages and it is a matter of opinion on whether
it has more positive or negative effects. This type of technology can
answer almost any of an individual's questions, fuel and individual's interests,
and electronically connect one with all of his or her friends. However,
in that same process this trend has the potential of desocializing an individual,
making him or her rely more on and become addicted to his or her computer,
instead of focusing on healthy personal relationships that one needs in
life. If a child spends hours on the computer instant messaging strangers
he or she may not develop essential social skills. This can also lead to
things such as cultural fragmentation.
Many obstacles face this trend
of telecommunications, one of which is privacy. Some of these products provide
capabilities for people to hold very personal, private information which
can very easily be accessed by others. Eventually lawmakers will have to
create laws concerning people's right to privacy. Another obstacle
is the question of how far companies will go to provide products with such
personal potential. To do this takes much more time and money that marketing
to a general population. Each will get to a point to where they will end
up making a different product for each individual. However, products such
as these will always appeal to the population so there will be a demand for
them.
