| Ball
State University consists of several colleges, each with different responsibilities. The
seven academic colleges-- Applied Sciences and Technology; Architecture and Planning;
Business; Communication, Information, and Media; Fine Arts; Sciences and Humanities; and
Teachers —offer courses to students through 46 departments.
Two additional colleges, University College and the Honors
College, play slightly different roles in undergraduate education. University College
provides services instead of courses to all Ball State students. One of these services,
Academic Advising, works with all first-time students in completing the University Core
Curriculum, those courses required of all students regardless of area of study. Once a
student becomes a sophomore and declares a major, he or she is advised by faculty in the
appropriate department.
The Honors College offers honors students special courses,
colloquia, and independent study. In addition to being in the Honors College, these
students also become part of an academic college when they declare their majors.
Interdepartmental programs are interdisciplinary programs
which may include programs and courses in specialized areas of study.
The links on this page are catalog pages for each
college. Each college page provides an overview of its departments and academic
programs, and links to departments within the college.
