Actuarial
Program
The
Center for Actuarial Science, Insurance, and Risk Management was created
from the majors of Actuarial Science, Department of Mathematical Sciences,
and Insurance in the Department of Finance. The arrangement is a unique
environment for the education of tomorrow’s actuarial science, insurance,
and risk management professionals.
The
center encourages its faculty to conduct applied research to benefit the
insurance industry and the people and businesses dependent upon it, as
well as the practitioners of the industry. With talented faculty and students
from both areas of study, the center will support additional research
topics for the industry to explore and use.
Students in the program are among the first to benefit from the research
of their professors. Faculty members also remain in the classroom, inspiring
students to become the next generation of critical-thinking industry experts.
The center promotes the quality educational programs within both departments
as it enhances the curriculum to continuously meet the needs of the industry.
Undergraduates seeking their first jobs, executives wanting to refine
their skills, and other professionals looking to further their knowledge
and careers all find within the center’s programs the right mix of theory
and practice for their needs.
The center brings together today's industry experts with future professionals,
creating a forum for interaction between the many people and businesses
involved in actuarial science, insurance, risk management, and financial
services.
Center students have the opportunity to learn from professionals on the
active advisory boards of both the actuarial science and insurance programs,
as well as other visiting professionals. Students are also encouraged
to attend local, regional, national, and international conferences to
meet other industry leaders, often with financial assistance from the
industry.
With
talented teacher scholars and newly graduated professionals every year
(all promoting the understanding and support of the actuarial science,
insurance, and risk management disciplines), the center stands to become
a recognized leader nationally and internationally in education and research.
New research, fresh ideas, and an openness to discover the future of the
industry; that's why the Center for Actuarial Science, Insurance, and
Risk Management is a leader in the business of education.
Ball State University is making an investment in the future of the insurance
industry. .
