Standard 1

Standard 1: Students and the Learning Process

School Services Professionals promote the success of all students by facilitating the academic, social, and physical development of the student and the quality and effectiveness of the learning environment;

Assignment: Students are required to conduct 2 classroom guidance presentations over the course of the semester.  Fist students must identify the developmental level of students selected for their presentation and consult with the classroom teacher about any special needs of the classroom prior to the presentation. A pre and post assessment must be conducted to document student growth as a result of your presentation. Both teacher and student must agree on the topic to be presented in class.  Students are to document the resources they used in developing the classroom guidance lesson. Students are to incorporate Cutbert "Cues to Classroom Guidance" in their presentation. Further, students are to document how the IPSB Standards and Standards for School Counselors were infused in their planning and delivery of their classroom guidance presentation.

Reflection

It has been a truly inspiring experience to work with students from a different culture. I know that I will not fully appreciate the impact of this experience for some time to come. One thought that stands out the most is being the odd one on a culture, to be racially different. To be the one questions are asked behind your back. I thought before this that I had a good understanding, but the experience is priceless.  Another noteworthy theme is the parallels of student issues. Although the system and culture here are different, the same student issues arise.  It was good to see how each of our systems deal with the issues and together we hope to make better interventions: This applies to the Guidance Officers, those in the Ministry, teachers and administrators.  The experience was simply amazing and an unparalleled experience. I feel that I have gained an experience which was very informative, and although me to grow personally and professionally.

Documentation that Students Changed as a Results of your
