Steve
Case is Chairman of the Board of AOL Time Warner. As Chairman, Mr. Case
is actively involved in leading and building AOL Time Warner, with particular
focus on technological developments, policy initiatives and strategic investments
that are driving the global expansion of the interactive medium. Steve
Case was formerly Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of America Online,
Inc., the world's leading interactive services company. Since co-founding
AOL in 1985, he has focused on developing a mass market for interactive
services and content. America Online's vision has been "to build a global
medium as central to people's lives as the telephone or television—and
even more valuable." With Mr. Case at the helm, AOL experienced remarkable
growth, both in the United States and around the world. From the time the
company went public in 1992, it grew from 250 employees and $30 million
in annual revenues, to more than 14,000 employees and nearly $6.9 billion
in revenues in FY2000. Described as the "first blue chip company
of the Internet," America Online was also the first Internet company to
be named to the Fortune 500. Today, AOL and CompuServe offer services in
16 countries, in 8 different languages, with more than 30 million members
worldwide.
The service's popular content and
features—as well as those of AOL Time Warner's online brands—are available
across a wide range of PC-based and mobile devices as part of the company's
AOL Anywhere strategy. As the growth of the Internet has accelerated, Steve
Case has been committed to ensuring that the interactive medium delivers
on its full promise to benefit society. Over the years, America Online
led the industry on such important issues as integrating technology into
schools, ensuring child safety and protecting consumer privacy. And, led
by Mr. Case, AOL helped the medium to further expand its potential by launching
Helping.org, a new e-philanthropy portal for online charitable giving,
as well as GovernmentGuide, an online guide to help citizens connect with
government services and elected officials. Through the AOL Foundation and
the Case Foundation, which he founded with his wife, Jean Case, Mr. Case
has supported programs like PowerUp—technology centers for young people
in inner cities and rural areas designed to help expand digital opportunity.
And through the AOL Time Warner Foundation, Mr. Case will continue to work
to use the power of media, communications and information technology to
enrich the lives of people everywhere. Born and raised in Hawaii, Steve
Case graduated with a degree in Political Science from Williams College.(http://www.aoltimewarner.com/about/whos_who/seniorcorpexecs/Case.html)
