BRADLEY LOUIS NEMETH -- Personal Page

Hi, my name is Brad Nemeth and I am a senior attending Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana.  I am a secondary social studies education major and secondary English education minor.  My primary area in social studies is United States History and my two supporting areas are World Civilization and Geography.

I was born August 20, 1980 at St. Francis Hospital in Beech Grove, Indiana.  My parents are Charles and April Nemeth, and I have one younger brother, Greg.  I am incredibly lucky to have such a great family.  I also have many great friends both at home and at Ball State that I love to hang out with and have fun and laugh (a lot).   I am from Greenwood, Indiana where I have lived my whole life and I graduated from Greenwood Community High School in June 1998 with about a 3.2 GPA -- forty-fifth in a class of 209.  I was involved in a number of activities in high school, but my most proud moment was being asked to fill-in with my school's marching band -- the Marching Woodmen, and go with them two years straight to the Indiana State School Music Association's State Marching Finals.  We won first place in Class "B" in 1996 and 1997 (1995 as well, but I was not in band then).  We also were in a National Championship contest in 1997 at the Fiesta Bowl in which we placed 5th in field competition and 2nd in the Fiesta Bowl Parade.  It was truly a great thrill to be in marching band.

In terms of community involvement, I have donated my time to Dayspring Family Homeless Center in Indianapolis, Meals on Wheels of Johnson County, and Indiana Special Olympics.  In high school, I participated in "Winterization," a program run by the high school where students went to local houses to prepare them for winter by raking leaves, cleaning, caulking, etc.

I entered Ball State University with Distinction and began my first year as a Architecture and Planning major with a history minor.  The next year,  I was a Landscape Architecture major for a semester, but knew this was not what I wanted to be.  So, I made up my mind that my true calling was to become a history teacher.  I became an Education major in Spring 2000 and added an English Education minor the following year.  I have loved my new major and am very excited about becoming a teacher.  My activities in connection with being a teacher have been few so far, but I have a few great experiences to share.  In high school, I was a teacher's assistant for Mrs. Sandy James' US History class.  I graded papers and exams and did anything that she needed me to do.  That was a great experience for me.  In college, I have been a Teaching Intern for Dr. Stephanie Beswick of the history department and her HIST 198 (Non-Western Civilization) class.  I took attendance, distributed papers, answered questions, took notes, and one time taught the class.  Dr. Beswick was out of town and asked me to teach a lecture on Korea.  My first time teaching was in front of a class of eighty students without any supervision -- it was nerve-racking and exciting at the same time, and everything went pretty well.  Currently this semester, I am a Teaching Intern with Professor Mary Neese Reck and her HIST 150 (Western Civilization) class.  I take notes, run study sessions, distribute papers, and designed the seating plan for over 220 students.  All of my teaching experiences thus far have been great!

I like to do many things -- so many that I never seem to finish my hobbies.  I have since the age of nine designed a city, aptly (and for lack of a better name) named Bradley City.  It is my pride and joy and I love to work on it whenever I feel the inspiration.  I have not only designed the roads and transportation systems, but I have also designed buildings, stadiums, and airports for the city, as well as the type of government that would rule the city and state with which it resides.  I have also been writing a movie since my senior year of high school with one of my best friends.  The movie is a combination of Shakespeare and classic movies -- I would love to see it made some day.  I also love government and have designed a new system for to replace the electoral college without giving it up completely.  I like to play tennis, used to play soccer (when I was a little more fit), and LOVE to watch college basketball -- especially in March.  And of course, I love almost all things history!  I can talk about history all the time and watch historical documentaries and programs along with movies whenever, wherever I am.  It is my excitement for history that I would love to bring to the classroom.  Well, I have a bunch more hobbies and things I do, but I cannot think of them right now, so I will leave this part complete here!
