Hello once again to those who have indicated interest in German Club! Some of you are new to this mailing list, so welcome to you. To send your feedback, comments, or suggestions, feel free to e-mail me here, or to e-mail the club proper at. So far, however, I have trouble sending mass mails from that address. Anyway here are a few announcements.

Dinner and a Movie: "Cabaret," a film with Liza Minelli which has a great deal to do with German culture, will be playing in Pruis Hall on Sunday, October 29, at 7:30 PM. The club will be meeting for dinner before the show, and heading over to Pruis after we eat. Dinner will be like Stammtisch, with the conversation limited to German wherever possible (for those of you who have never come to Stammtisch or a similar event, this casual environment is great for practice). We'll be meeting at 6:15 PM just outside the main entrance to Woodworth (just inside in case of bad weather), which is just east of Emens (approximately across a parking lot and down a hill). I hope to see you there!

Kulturabend: Wednesday, November 15, 7:00-8:30 (or later), Center for International Programs. Some students from Dr. Johnson's literature class will be presenting on 19th century German novellas. Additionally, we are likely to be taught a German card game, and to have folk songs, poetry, good German food, and whatever you bring with you. If you play the piano, come prepared to play some Mozart, Beethoven, or anything German if you like. If you love Heinrich Heine, bring some of his poetry to read, or recite from memory. We want to make this evening an open forum for the appreciation of anything related to German culture. Additionally, we will be voting on German Club t-shirt designs during the evening. There's still plenty of time to enter the contest, so be thinking of ideas. If anyone wants to know the official rules, feel free to ask me.

Cooking: Jane Eagley, our Vice President, will be making some German food for Kulturabend, at the Center for International Programs, starting at 5:30 PM on November 15. Feel free to join her and pick up some great recipes in the process, and then hang around for the evening's activities. Feel free to just show up, but Jane would probably like to know whether or not you're coming. You can e-mail her.

Membership: In order to make it easier for you to pay your dues and become an official member of the club, your German Club officers will be staffing a table in NQ, across from the language lab, from 10 AM to 3 PM on Friday, October 27. We strongly suggest that interested parties pay their dues on or before this date. Once you pay your dues, you receive benefits such as discounts on fundraisers and fieldtrips, and you will eventually receive a membership card.

Finally, I'd like to remind you that you can still pre-order Harvest Fest t-shirts in North Quad 138 for $12.00. If you write German Club on the order form, we will receive some of the profits.

Instructors, if you would be so kind as to pass these announcements on to your classes, it would be greatly appreciated.

That's all for now. We have more exciting plans in the works! Thanks for your continuing interest and participation!

Mit freundlichen Gruessen,
ich verbleibe Chris Stroop, Praesident des Deutschklubs
