Hallo meine Mitoffizieren und sehr geehrte
Professoren!
Hier gibt's eine Zusammenfassung davon, was
wir heute besprachen, und auch ein Paar Sachen, was einige bald tun sollen.
Picnic: We discussed a few things in regards
to our forthcoming picnic. At said picnic, we want to discuss the official
membership benefits. We also thought we might sell German Club t-shirts,
and that we could announce to those at the picnic the chance to suggest
slogans. The winner would receive a free t-shirt. As far as business is
concerned, we should announce the dates for Cabaret (Sunday, Oct. 29),
Harvest Fest (when is it again, Kinsey?), and Deutscher Kulturabend, which
we decided to have on Wednesday, November 15, at 7 PM. Hopefully we'll
have the location before the week's out.
In addition to this, I'd like to thank Dr.
Johnson for reminding me that October 3rd will be the tenth anniversary
of Wiedervereinigung, and that October 6th is German American Day. I think
it would be most appropriate to commemorate these occasions, and am willing
to give a brief speech on this unless someone else wants to deliver the
speech (let me know soon if you do). For German American Day, I figured
I could talk about great German American contributors such as Werner von
Braun, etc.
Oh, I almost forgot. Anette, if you're still willing to be Vice President in charge of the Theater special interest group, we'd like to nominate you and vote at the picnic. Let me know what you think about that.
Membership Benefits: These are possible membership benefits we discussed. Discounted Adventskalenders and t-shirts, discounted or free tickets to the play, dues provide refreshments at meetings, and, of course, it looks good on a resume and provides support for the Ball State German Club. Other perks may be announced as the opportunity to benefit the members arises. Any objections? Further suggestions? What does everyone think of restricting voting rights to members, effective after the date of the picnic? Please e-mail me and let me know.
Play: We selected two possibile sets of dates for our play. Our preferred dates are Friday-Sunday, April 6-8. We checked the academic and theatrical calendars, and this seems to be a good time. Now, we need to choose the play and order the scripts as soon as possible. I'd like to have a few read-throughs, at the very least, before the end of fall semester, and require that lines be learned before the beginning of spring semester, which, theoretically, will mean they will all be learned by the performance time, right? ;) Does anyone have any suggestions? Once before the German Club did Biederman und die Brandstifter, and that is a possibility. I think, also, that Die Physiker wouldn't be too hard. But I'm open to other possibilities. Who has suggestions?
Now to the nitty gritty:
Everyone (sponsors included, if you would be so kind): Send Kinsey your biographies for the web-page. Also, if you are coming to the picnic, sign up in NQ so people will see that there will be a lot of people there.
Kinsey: You need to be working on the webpage and looking into t-shirts as far as prices and practicality are concerned, etc, and whether or not it would be better to buy a machine to manufacture our own which we could leave as a legacy to the German club, or better to order them from somewhere else.
Ryan: You need to be looking into getting Pruis for the play. Please get on this by early next week at the latest, and report your progress back to me.
Jane: You're looking into the possibility of official membership cards.
Me: I'm trying to get a location for Deutscher
Kulturabend. I'm also looking into getting our organization an official
e-mail account. All recipients of this e-mail would be given the password
and allowed access. I've found that many free e-mail providers, Hotmail
included, don't like group accounts. I've begun researching a BSU account.
I called Computing Services, and they told me to go to room L-1 in the
student center. I'll try and do that tomorrow. If anyone knows what I need
to do or has a better plan for this, please let me know.
Oh, yes. I'm also campus mailing the officers
a copy of our constitution. Anette, what's your address?
Question for Dr. Warner: When are some dates that the Chor you're connected with is performing in Indianapolis? We'd like to plan a trip to eat at the Rathskeller and see them perform.
Well, meine Herren und Damen, I think that's all for now. I'm looking forward to our picnic. Keep thinking about the play, everyone. I'd love to see us choose a play within a week or so, so that we can order the scripts from a German publisher. Does anyone know how long it would take to get them? Alright, have a good evening (morning, day, whatever it is when you read this mail)!
Mit freundlichen Gruessen,
ich verbleibe Ihr Chris
