Dear Officers, Faculty Sponsors, and Anette,
I just wanted to let you know that we have the picnic shelter reserved for Thursday, October 5, from 5 until 9. Charley Scofield did tell me that the school doesn't have firewood available, but Dr. Warner offerred us some wood if we couldn't get it through the school--thanks! Now, we just need to decide exactly how we want to run this thing--perhaps at it we could announce a time for the next business related meeting, where we could possibly introduce the requirements for official membership and so on. I've also got a copy of the constitution on loan from Dr. Warner, and I'd like to get all you officers a copy so that from here on out we can try to run things a bit more according to protocol. Our specific functions as officers are outlined in it--Kinsey was asking about that the other day at our officers' meeting. So, anyway, maybe we officers should meet again before the picnic to talk about that, and we could set a couple of other dates and start trying to secure locations--ie, for the Kulturabend, the Christmas party, and the play--it can't hurt to get some of those details out of the way early; that way we have more time to plan the more important aspects. We might also discuss what we want to perform for our play. As for the play itself, according to the constitution, we could delegate it to a special interest group, over which would be a vice president of that special interest group--in this case, Vice President of the German Club Players, or whatever we want to call our actors. Anette, would you be willing to take on that position if we move in that direction? Your theatrical experience in Germany makes you extremely qualified. Let me know if you're interested. If so, it'd be nice if you could come to the next officers' meeting, where we can set a goal date, and talk about location and our choice of a play to perform. Anyway, I've really digressed. Please respond to this e-mail, officers, with a yea or nay on this date for another meeting--Thursday, September 28, 12:30 PM, student center talley.

Finally, now that we have our date and location for the picnic, we need to decide exactly when we want to have the dinner, what else we might like to do, and so forth. Then we can advertise--once it's settled, Dawn, please make some posters--on to put up in North Quad on the board where it says "Next German Club Event," and some others to put on those wooden things around the campus. Please also stick a flyer outlining the details in every German instructor's mailbox. I will e-mail everyone on our list, including all the instructors, as soon as the details are settled. We'll have people sign up to come to the picnic, or RSVP with me (or some of you if you're willing--let me know)--by October 1.
As I mentioned, we can have the shelter until 9, if we want it.
I guess what I'm asking is, do we want to conduct any business, or to have something like a polka lesson from Dr. Warner if he's willing, or something like that? Maybe some Volkslieder? Or, on the other hand, do we want to just eat, enjoy each other's company by the fire, and so forth? Perhaps we could be ready by the picnic to tell everyone about the official membership plan and benefits. We'll of course want a little speech to thank those who helped and to encourage people to continue to be involved with German Club. Please e-mail with suggestions, anyone of you who receives this, as soon as possible. In a few days I hope we'll have the details so we can advertise this event.

One last thing--Ryan, any details on the Oktoberfest in Indy on October 6? We'll need to arrange transportation for that, so we need to know what we're looking at as soon as possible.

Thank you all, and have a good evening!

Mit freundlichen Gruessen,
ich verbleibe Ihr Chris
