Hello once again, everyone! I have a couple of upcoming events to bring to your attention.
First of all, Agatge Nesaule will be speaking Wednesday as part of the Emens Distinguished Professor-ship Lecture series. Here is an excerpt from an article about her on Ball State's website:
"Nesaule, professor emeritus of English and women’s studies at the University of Wisconsin, Whitewater, speaks on 'Healing the Trauma of War and Exile' at 8 p.m, Feb. 14 in the L.A. Pittenger Student Center Cardinal Hall.
"She was forced to leave her childhood home in Latvia during World War II because of the imminent threat of a Russian invasion. Living first in Nazi Germany, then Russian-occupied Germany and enduring endless persecution, the Nesaule family finally made it to freedom, first in a displaced person camp in the British sector of Berlin, then finally in the United States."
***Here's the really amazing announcement about Professor Nesaule. In addition to the lecture, which I believe will be excellent, she has agreed to join us for a special Stammtish on Thursday in the Student Center Talley, at the usual time (12-1). For anyone who can make it, this is an opportunity not to be missed. THIS WILL REPLACE OUR USUAL TUESDAY STAMMTISCH FOR THIS WEEK ONLY.
In addition, I would like to announce an upcoming lecture from one of German Club's active and most distinguished members, Dr. Jocelyn Mackey. Dr. Mackey taught music at Ball State for 25 years. She also studied in Berlin on a Fullbright during the early 1960's. Her lecture, "Berlin ist eine Reise wert" will be given on Tuesday, February 20, at 7 PM, location TBA. The lecture, which, among other things, will deal with John F. Kennedy's famous lecture in Berlin, is highly recommended.
That's all I have for now.
Mit freundlichen Gruessen
verbleibe ich Ihr Chris Stroop,
Praesident des Deutschklubs
