FINAL DATE to REGISTER ON-LINE for the Regional Science Fair is Wednesday February 20, 2008.

Ball State University will again host the East Central Indiana Regional Science Fair. The fair will be held in Ball Gymnasium on March 1, 2008.

Our Regional Fair includes all schools (public, private or parochial) in Blackford, Delaware, Fayette, Franklin, Grant, Henry, Howard, Jay, Madison, Randolph, Rush, Tipton, Union, and Wayne counties. Students may participate in competition in three divisions:

There are no limitations from industries, societies, and armed forces for which all students are eligible to compete.

Two Senior Division winners and their sponsoring TEACHERS will win an expense paid trip to the International Science and Engineering Fair held in Atlanta, GA on May 11-18, 2008. The two senior division winners, two senior alternates, and two junior division winners will also win a trip to the Hoosier Science and Engineering Fair held at DePauw University, Greencastle, IN on April 5, 2008.

Rules for the Regional Science Fair will be the same as the rules for the International Fair. For a copy of the complete rules, log onto www.sciserv.org. Click on INTEL International Science and Engineering Fair and, under INTEL ISEF News, click on Rules Wizard.   The last page of the ISEF Rules Wizard contains required forms to be submitted with projects.  (Elementary students do not need to submit these forms.)  Some of the more important and misunderstood rules are:

  2. NO LIVE ANIMALS, PLANTS, PLANT PARTS, SOILS, CHEMICALS (including containers filled with water), or FOOD may be exhibited with student's projects.
  3. NO DANGEROUS CHEMICALS may be exhibited. (volcano -ammonia dichromate, acids, strong bases)
  4. NO OPEN FLAMES OR COMBUSTIBLE MATERIALS may be exhibited.
  5. Table space of 76cm by 122cm and floor to top of 274cm is allowed.
  6. Electricity (110 volts) will be available but no gas or water.
  7. Only INDIVIDUAL projects permitted. (No exceptions)
  8. NO portable chairs (due to fire code).
