Application Information
1-Year Biotechnology Certificate Program
You may apply to the program at any time
using either the online application or a paper form. Entrance into the program
is competitive (limited to 16 students each year) and applications for the 2005
Summer/Fall term will begin to be evaluated as early as March, 2005.
Applications will be accepted until the program is filled.
Undergraduate or graduate students in Biology currently enrolled at Ball
State may apply directly to the Biotechnology Certificate Program.
For U.S. citizens not currently enrolled at Ball State University, an
additional application must first be made to the Graduate School
If you are an international student
interested in a
departmental teaching assistantship that begins
Fall,
2005, you will need to complete your
application to International
Programs by
December 31, since it takes longer to complete
the
process for international students. Prospective
international students should first contact the
Center for
International Programs to
b e guided
through the application process,
as well as the Graduate School.
Note:
No action will be taken in awarding
positions in the Biotechnology Certificate
Program until students are accepted into
Ball State University.
Those selected to participate in the Biotechnology Certificate
Program may elect any of the following options:
- Take the 1-year program as an undergraduate, applying the credits towards
a BA or BS degree in Biology.
- After being accepted as a post-baccalaureate non-degree seeking student
through the Graduate School and into the Biotechnology Certificate Program, fees may be paid at the undergraduate rate.
- Following acceptance into the Graduate School and then the Biotechnology
Certificate Program, receive graduate credit for the biotech courses
(graduate fees are more per hour than undergraduate fees).
- Following acceptance into the (1) Graduate School, (2) Department
of Biology, and the
(3) Biotechnology Certificate Program, successfully complete 9-12 hours in
addition to the Biotechnology Program to receive an MA or MS in Biology.
- Note: An application
must be submitted separately to the Department of Biology
(765-285-8820) for a graduate assistantship. If awarded, graduate fees are waived and pay
is received for teaching or preparing laboratories.
Application Requirements
Applications for this program require:
Graduate School application;
Dept of Biology application;
Biotechnology Certification Program
application; current GRE scores; original Undergraduate and Graduate
transcripts; and 3 recommendations.
