The course work for the pre-dental hygiene program may be taken at Ball State University. Second and third years and an optional fourth year are offered at five schools in Indiana, listed below. The three year curriculum leads to an Associate in Science degree, the fourth year to a Bachelor of Science degree. Although the pre-dental hygiene course work can be completed in one year at Ball State, it may take longer depending on the student’s high school background. The Ball State courses listed below meet the first year requirements of all of the five Indiana programs. Only grades of C or better will transfer. The suggested order of the required courses listed is only a recommendation and most of the classes can be taken in another order including one or two summer sessions. CHEM 101, however, is a prerequisite for PHYSL 205. If your background in Biology is weak, you may need to take a beginning Biology or Health-Science course before ANAT 201.
Students may apply for admission to one or more of the five campuses listed, but a separate application must be submitted to each campus. The Director of each program must be contacted early in the autumn semester of the freshman year for application forms, information on deadlines and other requirements.
The student should be aware that competition for admission to the second year of the Program is keen and that completion of the freshman year does not guarantee acceptance. Good grades and knowledge of the profession are important. Consultation with dental hygienists and observation of their work are strongly recommended.
