Problem Solving

Age Range:

Kindergarten

*Children need to be able to have the skill and ability to be successful problem solvers in their daily life task.

Purpose:

Creating a taste for math fact practice with cookie cutouts!

Teacher's Role:

The teacher will label each shape with a different math fact (example: 5+5), laminate shapes, and then cut them out. He/ she will use a permanent marker to program the backs of the cutouts for self-checking. The cookies will then be stored in cookie jar or holiday tin and placed in a center with cookie sheet. During the student's role, the teacher must observed and guide the student.

Student's Role:

The student arranges the cookies on the cookie sheet fact side up. Then he/she picks up each one, answers the fact, and turns it over to verify her answer. If his/her answer is correct, he /she puts the cookie in the tin. If it is not, he/she returns the cookie to the sheet. When all the cookies are in the tin, his/her work is complete!
