In the curriculum, there are many components that
should be addressed in a developmentally appropriate
practice curriculum. Here are few of the major components:
1. The curriculum should include all four development of the
whole child (social, emotional, physical and cognitive).
2.The curriculum should be based on teacher's observations
and recordings. 3.The curriculum should have active
explorations and also you need to allow active time for
exploration. 4. The teacher should have a wide range of
materials that increase complexity. 5. Learning materials
and activities should be real and relevant. 6.The curriculum
should be multicultural based and nonsexist.
My philosophy of education is the Development
Appropriate Practice (D.A.P.) within the curriculum it
needs to be age and individually appropriate. It must be
age appropriate because it needs to include cognitive,
emotional, physical and social domain. This gives the
children a chance to learn and explore within their age
range. Children will not feel so intimidated in lower or
higher level age range. The curriculum must be
individually appropriate because teachers must know that
children are unique and have different learning styles
and personalities. The teacher must make the curriculum
ample for each child to explore and discover the
environment in his/her own constructive way of
learning.
