Different materials have different strengths. To demonstrate this, attach one end of a piece of balsa wood to a lab support and hang weights on the other end until it breaks, noting how much weight it took. Do the same thing with a piece of pine and a length of plastic of the same dimensions. What does this have to do with flight? .
