EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION PROGRAMS

The AAUW Educational Foundation is the philanthropic organization through which the American Association of University Women carries out charitable, educationa, and public service endeavors. As stated in the charter of the Foundation, these purposes include:

Major areas of AAUW Educational Foundation activities are:

The AAUW Achievement Award has been presented annually since 1943 to an American woman in recognition of distinguished scholarly or professional accomplishment. Recipients of this $3,000 award have come from many fields, including education, law, literature, science, anthropology, engineering, mathematics, social work, psychology, and government.

The AAUW Recognition Award for Young Scholars was established in 1972. The award of $1,000 cites a woman under thirty-five years of age, who by early accomplishment in her discipline, shows promise of future distinction.

The AAUW Fellowship Program is the largest and oldest such program exclusively for women. To date, more than 7,000 women have been selected as AAUW Fellows to receive either American or International Fellowships in professional fields of law, dentistry, medicine, architecture, environmental design, urban planning, engineering, business, veterinary medicine, and nursing.

Optional donations by each member to the EFP are encouraged, and may be made at any time during the year. As one International Chairman said some years ago, "From its beginning, the strength of our programs has rested on the fact that it has been supported by our members because they believed in it, not from any sense of compulsion. This is a precious heritage and its continuation means continued strength."

NAMED FELLOWSHIPS: MUNCIE BRANCH

Gifts, bequests, contributions, and proceeds from branch money-making projects are sent to the Indiana State Educational Foundation Programs and earmarked for endowment, current stipends, or undesignated funds. If the amount is $500 or more, the money may bear a name.

Each year, our branch holds an auction in October to raise funds for the Educational Foundation. The branch sincerely thanks the donors for this year's auction. Based on those funds, we sponsor named fellowships in the amount of $500 The following members have been honored by these named fellowships:
