The Walt Disney company is no doubt a
conglomeritization because
is has incorporated a number of different companies and works in diversified
fields. An example that proves this is that the company owns both Sports
Franchises and deals in Theatrical Productions.
This entertainment company also has used
globalization by placing
a theme park in Tokyo and taking part in producing television shows in
countries all over the world.
Clearly, the Disney Company has
horizontally integrated
by producing various different radio stations and numerous television
channels.
This conglomerate also shows examples of
vertical integration,
one being the fact that the company creates various entertaining television
programs and movies along with the Production Companies to distribute them.
By owning or partly owning, so many diverse
companies, the Disney Company can use one segment of their company
to promote another product. Example: advertising a Disney movie on
the ABC channel or on Radio Disney. This is an example of
media synergy.

Currently the economy is down in the U.S. After researching
Disney's
profits through the past years, it is evident that figures are significantly
lower. Due to the complex diversification of this conglomerate, though,
Disney is still doing quite well.
The Walt Disney Company began in the back of a small
office which in Los Angeles of 1923. This is the exact location where

Mr. Walt Disney, along with his brother Roy, created a series of short
live-action/ animated films which were titled the Alice Comedies. The rent
was a mere $10 a month. Within four months, the ever-growing staff moved
next door to larger facilities, where the sign on the window read "Disney
Bros. Studio." A year later, in 1925, the Disneys made a deposit on a Hyperion
Avenue lot in the Silver Lake district of Los Angeles. Construction began
on the new studio shortly thereafter. During the next 14 years, many changes
took place at the Disney studio: Mickey

Mouse was born in 1928, followed by Pluto, Goofy, Donald Duck, and the rest
of the Disney gang.
In 1937,
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was
an immediate success and proved the worldwide market for animated features.
In order to expand and meet the expectations of his audience, Walt saw a need
to increase the size of his studio. With profits from Snow White, he made
a deposit on 51 acres of land in Burbank and began designing a modern studio
specifically for the purpose of making animated films.
The Animation Building, housing the Disney Artists
and animators, was planned in the center of the lot. Across a small street
were built the Inking and Painting and the Camera buildings, where the artwork
was completed and photographed. Next to Camera, in the Cutting building,
the post production process occurred. Sound facilities included dubbing, scoring,
effects, and voice recording studios. Many of the buildings were linked together
by an underground tunnel, so even in bad weather, the process of making animated
films was not disrupted. To enhance the campus-like setting, all of the utilities
were placed underground which was an innovation for 1940.

During the 1940s and 1950s many prominent animated features
were produced in Burbank, including
Fantasia,
Pinocchio,
Bambi,
Cinderella,
Alice In Wonderland, and
Peter Pan.
" As Mr.Disney's motion pictures and television programs
became successful, he felt a desire to branch out. One area that intrigued
him was amusement parks. He had taken his two young daughters to zoos, carnivals,
and other entertainment enterprises, but he always ended up sitting on the
bench as they rode the merry-go-round and had all the fun. He felt that there
should be a park where parents and children could go and have a good time
together. This was the genesis of Disneyland. After several years of planning
and construction, the new park opened July 17, 1955."
After producing many more films and programs,
along with regularly adding attractions to his park, Mr. Walt Disney died
on December 15, 1966. Although this was the end of an era, his
creations would live and flourish forever.
"Roy O. Disney, who after Walt's death oversaw the
building and financing of Walt Disney World, died late in 1971, and for
the next decade the company was led by a team including Card Walker, Donn
Tatum, and Ron Miller - all originally trained by the Disney brothers. One
of Walt Disney's last plans had been for the Experimental Prototype Community
of Tomorrow, or EPCOT, as he called it. While he died before the plans could
be refined, they were brought out again in a few years, and in 1979 ground
was broken for the new park in Florida. Epcot Center, a combination of Future
World and World Showcase representing an investment of over a billion dollars,
opened to great acclaim October 1, 1982."
For more than seven decades, The Walt Disney Company
has succeeded in making its name know in the field of family entertainment.
From humble beginnings as a cartoon studio in the 1920s to today's major
corporation, it continues its priority of providing quality entertainment
for the entire family. The officers of Walt Disney have continued to expand
the company by adding sectors overseas, purchasing sporting teams, and producing
radio and television newworks. The Disney Company is sure to live forever.
