DVD Piracy
According to Digital Content, all things digital can be copied no matter how well protected by encription.  Because internet music sharing began around the time DVDs began to be sold in large amounts, DVD manufactures began to place encriptions that was thought to be able to prevent movie sharing.      Unfortunately, internet users have decoded these encriptions allowing others to download entire movies for free.  Though it is not yet a widely used practice because the movies are low quality and take a long time to download, the more advanced technology becomes, the more it will be used.  People that have developed decoding technology have been brought to court (article), movie studios are concerned.  Luckily, they are already working to prevent piracy and track those that participate.

High-Definition DVD
Sony just recently developed High-Definition DVDs which store more then 5 times the amount of information then standard DVDs (article).  The biggest difference can be seen when viewing standard DVDs on High-Definition TV, since they have more lines then DVDs.  It is likely that the closer to the 2006 High-Definition DVD we get, the more likely DVD manufactures will have to decide whether or not to make another switch over.  I suspect they will, since the biggest draw of DVD is the detailed look on scene.
