Advantages
-DVD players are smallier and even portable players are able to be used.
-DVD players are currently being made to hold up to 5 or 6 discs, the way CD players do now, so people can watch a number of movies at one time, especially helpful if you are using a number of discs for presentation or classroom.
-DVD players are able to be plugged into speakers and play CDs and MP3 files, allowing people to virtually get rid of their Stereos and create one entertainment unite.
-DVDs do not wear out the way VHS tapes do with repeated viewing.
-DVDs offer scene selection, the option of wide-screen or pan-and-scan viewing, multiple audio tracks, and bonus features.
-DVDs are smallier and easier to store.
-Films often unprofitable in video sales, are being released on DVD disc and offering younger viewers the chance to see them.
-Films and TV shows are being preserved and stored in the longest lasting format known, digital, without the loss of quality.

Disadvantages
-People have to invest in this new technology, while keeping in mind that new technology will require future investments.
-VHS tape libraries will have to be burned onto DVD discs.
-To record, people will either have to keep their VCRs and tape on low image quality, or buy a DVD recorder
-DVDs are not yet HDTV compatiable, even though by 2006 everyone has to have purchased a HDTV.
-People likely will purchase 2 or 3 versions of a single movie to get all the extra features available because of special editions that come out later.
