Bulletin Board

(November 26, 2001)

My bulletin board was put up in a general education first grade inclusion classroom.  The theme of my bulletin board was Fall Fun.  The bulletin board was used both to decorate for fall and to help illustrate one of the required standards for the first grade curriculum.  The Indiana Academic Science Standard states that children must be able to “explain the effect of seasonal changes on plants, animals, and people.”  My bulletin board was a visual display of the standard with trees losing their leaves, apples falling off a tree, a girl wearing warmer clothing, and geese flying south.  As the students studied why leaves change colors and about apples they were able to look back to my bulletin board for a visual depiction of the types of changes that occur with the coming of autumn.
