I believe that the company needs to stay aware of its financial situation.  They have, for the past five years seen a steady  decline in their stocks.  Around June of 2002, they saw a drastic decline, but in August of 2002, they came back up to where they were before.  The past week, however, has been witness to a steady rise in stock prices.  But over all the direction, with the exception of a few sporadic weeks, has been in a depression.  This doesn't make a lot of sense, because every year they get more and more customers, and the revenue of the company stay right around $67 billion.  This year they made a 1.7% increase in revenue from 2002.  Also, they make almost a 5-7% increase in revenue every year.  They have more than 30 million  residential, 10.4 million long distance, 32.5 million wireless, and 1.8 million DSL customers, all of these numbers are up to 11% greater than last year.
