History:
The Walt Disney Company started in
1923 by Walt Disney and his brother Roy. They used a small office in
Los Angeles because the rent was only $10 a month. The staff soon grew and they moved next door to larger facilities and called themselves "Disney Bros. Studio." Disney continued to grow and they made a deposit for a larger studio. "During the next 14 years, many changes took place at the Disney studio: Mickey Mouse was born in 1928, followed by Pluto, Goofy, Donald Duck, and the rest of the Disney Gang (Disney Studios)." ![]() Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was their first full length animated movie, released in 1937. With the money from Snow White, Walt made an deposit for another, bigger, modern studio, to make animated films (Disney Studios). Disney's first live action film was Treasure Island, released in 1950. The company soon branched out to
television, creating the Mickey
Mouse Club in 1955, one of television's most popular
shows. Soon enough Walt felt the company needed to do more.
instead of TV and movies. He had always been fascinated by
amusement parks, but felt there wasn't enough for families to do there.
Most of the rides were children oriented, so he wanted a park where
parents and children could have fun together. He thus, thought of
Disney Land,
which took several years to plan, but finally opened on July 17, 1955 (Disney History).
![]() After Walt Disney died in 1966, his plans carried Disney for the next few years. Before his death he purchased land in Florida, where he wanted to build Walt Disney World. The theme park opened Oct 1, 1971. "It did not take long for Walt Disney World to become the premier vacation destination in the world (Disney History)." Since Disney's creation in 1923, it has been the prominent leader in family entertainment. They have studios all over the county, new films
coming out each year, and so much more to entertain children and
adults. Disney appeals to all ages with
clean, fun entertainment. We now have the pleasure to watch all
their heartwarming movies, ride in their
fast pace rides at Disney Land and
World, or cuddle with our very own Winnie the Pooh stuff animal.
The possibilities are endless for what Disney can do for our lives. |
