Tag You're It
On Wednesday, Octover 8th my J 101 class listened to a news report clip. This clip went a long with our chapter 5 readings. It was about a reporter from the station that wanted to be a country recording star. Bob Garfield is a reporter who wanted to fulfil his dream of becoming a country music artist. He traveled to Tennessee to the Blue Bird Cafe where many coulntry artists have been discovered. there he learned tree important lessons about the recording industry: outsiders have the odds of not making overnight sucesses, a songwriter has to create an original theme and make the song have a simple idea.
Bob goes on th make his "big hit," and finds out those three rulse werent simple tasks to overcome. He wrote a song about phone tag and titled it Tag You're It. His song wasnt a big hit like he thought it would be. Basically the record company laughed at the idea and the song; saying that it would never be a hit or make it in the industry. With those words his dream of being a country star was shattered.

I thought that Bob's idea was very clever. There arent any country songs that have this theme and there are so many relationships that are like this. This song really reminds me of a friendship that I am involved in; every time this friend and I "talk" on the phone, we talk to each other's voice mails or answering machines. It is very frustrating and that is exactly what the song is trying to get at.
Even though Bob didnt vecome the overnight success that he wanted to be, he did get a taiste of his dream. That was equally important.
