Billboard
Billboard is a weekly publication magizine for music, video, and entertainment. This magizine is ver oversized: about 11x14. It appeals to a younger audience from teens to people in their late 20's early 30's. The magizine that I looked ofver was the October 11, 2003 issue. Gloria Estefan was featured on a very art deco cover. Almost all the ads were focused toward Estifan congratutlating her for having 24 albums and selling 70 million copies. If the ad wasnt focused toward Estifan, then the ads were for concert venues. Regualr departments include: Top of the News, Music, Retail and Global Programming. This magizine covers its fields well and equally.
The Article that I read caught my eye first because of the picture that was related to it. It was of Good Charlotte, a favorite band of mine. The overall article was about sponsership and how the wrong type can taint a musicians reputation. Companies behind such products as alcohol, condoms and tampons have a hard time finding artist that want to be sponsered by them. Good Charlotte ties into this article by accepting a sponsership from Honda Civic instead of an alcohol brand; the band's manager, Steve Feinberg, made this decision based on the fans' age: Good Charlotte's majority of fans are under 21. Feinberg says, "We would rather not tour [than link with a problematic sponsor]."
This magizine was very insightful, and I enjoyed reading it. Another fact I learned later was that this week in Billboard history that for the first time in 50 years all on the top ten artist on the billboard charts are African American.
