Broken throttle cable ended this ride a little early.
Don Akers and I were going to do the River Ride. The plan was to take pictures to enhance the post on the Motorcycle Tourer's Forum. About 50 miles from home, the throttle cable popped. Called the GWRRA, they tell me that they don't have anybody in the area that can tow motorcycles. Great, why am I paying the fee. They decided to try harder. Since I also belong to Honda's Rider Club, I decide I will call them. Get thrown into a menu system and their telephone won't recognize my "press 1". Call my wife and have her call HRC. GWRRA calls and tells me that they found a tow but since I am 50 miles from home and they only cover 30 miles, it will cost me $20.00. I tell them ok and they tell me somebody will be there within an hour. My wife calls and says HRC has arranged for a pickup - same tow company, but they will only tow to the nearest dealer which is about 3 miles from where I'm at and 50 miles from my home. Of course the dealer is closed on Sundays. After a great deal of hassle, I worked it out that GWRRA would pay for the tow to my house with my $20.00 contribution and HRC would pay for the tow from my house to the closest dealer, which is my regular dealer. Heck I had an 8000 mile check up scheduled for the next day anyway. Any bets on how long it will take them to get the throttle cable? Guess what, I was only down for three days.

This group of pictures was taken at the Loop for Life, Indianapolis, Indiana August 18, 2001 This is a charity ride for Indiana Special Olympics. Not sure about this year but last year they had over 1700 bikes. I registered at Noblesville Honda. We had about 50 bikes go from there to the Marion County Fairgrounds. We a police escort to the Marion County line and then were picked up by six Marion County Motorcycle Police and were escorted the rest of the way in. The ride is around Interstate 465 which circles Indianapolis. This ride is police escorted and all traffic is shut down (police block on incoming lanes to the Interstate). It is quite a thing to see 6 bikes wide for as far as you can see.
