Students in Ball State University's urban planning degree programs gain firsthand experience outside the classroom by completing a required internship with a professional planning or land development firm, agency, or organization.
All students in the bachelor of urban planning and development (B.U.P.D.) degree program must participate in a 10-week internship sometime after completing their third year. Summer internships in planning agencies, community development departments, and similar settings are the most common.
For students in the master of urban and regional planning (M.U.R.P.) program, the internship requires 200 hours and is completed during the summer between the first and second years of the degree.
Internships are arranged with the assistance and approval of the department and are directed by a student portfolio review.
