Anton (Tony) Majeri was inducted into the Ball State Department of Journalism Hall of Fame during the 2008 Eugene S. Pulliam National Writing award and Department of Journalism awards program April 2.
Majeri, former senior editor for innovations at the Chicago Tribune, has been a strong supporter of the journalism program since the 1980s.
During the luncheon, the department also recognized 12 other award recipients, including:
- Eugene S. Pulliam National Journalism Writing Award - Lee Hill Kavanaugh, feature writer, Kansas City Star
- Indiana Journalism Award - Emmis Publishing
- Indiana Scholastic Journalism Award - Dr. Mary Andis, director of English and Language Arts in the Curriculum and Instruction area of the Indiana Department of Education
- Journalism Alumnus Award - Jason Whitlock, Kansas City Star and FOXSports.com sports columnist
- Outstanding Young Alumnus Award - Heidi Monroe-Kroft, vice president for BLASTmedia
- Outstanding Young Alumnus Award - Justin Gilbert, Bloomberg News
- Joseph Costa Award for Courtroom Photography - Marc Campos, staff photographer, Inland Valley Daily Bulletin (Ontario, Calif.)
- Anton Majeri Jr. Award for Innovation and Leadership in Graphic Journalism - Pegie Stark Adam, affiliate faculty, Poynter Institute
- National Public Relations Achievement Award - MaryLee Sachs, chairman, Hill & Knowlton USA
- Special Citation - Rhoda Weiss, president PRSA Foundation, Santa Monica, Calif.
