Update
Chinese film 'National Anthem' to be shown Sept. 29 (9/26/2003)
The local premiere of the Chinese film "National Anthem" will be at 8 p.m. Sept. 29 in Pruis Hall.

The College of Communication, Information, and Media presents the free showing. The film has English subtitles.

On Sept. 18, 1931, northeastern China was occupied by the Japanese army. This event inspired a sense of deep patriotism in a young dramatist, Tian Han, who devoted himself to the anti-Japanese movement through his plays and music.

"The March of the Volunteer Army" inspired a whole nation to fight the Japanese invaders and became the national anthem of the People's Republic of China. The epic film depicts the struggle and determination of a nation facing overwhelming odds.

David Buckley of China Century Entertainment and Kang Jian Min, one of China's most famous producers and directors, will make introductory comments.

"Saihu, the Dog" was originally scheduled for showing but was unavailable due to a shipping problem.

For additional information, call Pruis Hall at 5-5524 or Bob Condon, CCIM graduate assistant, at 5-1742.
