Objectives

• The tutor will read a journal article dealing with developmental education in mathematics.
• The tutor will defend his/her stance in responding to some of the author's points.
• The tutor will formulate his/her own beliefs on mathematical language.

It is very important as mathematics professionals to keep current on research and issues.  A journal article from the Journal of Developmental Education was chosen for you to read and react to in this module.  As you read the article, reflect on your beliefs about the content and whether these beliefs are consistent with the author.  This article is almost 10 years old, so consider whether the material is current with the today's educational standards and expectations.  The article citation is below.
