Resources for Choosing a Major in Ball State University
  • Individual assessment and feedback is available through the Office of Academic Advising. Contact your academic advisor for more information.
  • Exploration software programs (i.e., FOCUS, SIGI Plus, Career Finder) are available in the Learning Center and the Career Center. These programs ask you questions, analyze your responses, and then provide printouts of related academic majors and careers.
  • Senior VIP (Very Informed Person) Connection offers students a chance to discuss a particular major with an upperclassman in that field. Directories of the volunteer VIPs are available in the Learning Center or through your academic advisor.
  • Vocational evaluation, including individual counseling and interest testing, is available in the Counseling and Psychological Services Center.
  • Material about all Ball State majors is available at the Office of Admissions Web site. Materials are also available at the Learning Center and provide information about academic major requirements as well as careers.
  • The Career Center provides extensive, up-to-date information and resources, including books, periodicals, computer software, and other information related to majors and careers.
  • Academic departments offer career-related information and resources. Ask your professors for information and visit different departments for handouts and materials. Check departmental bulletin boards or the university's Web-based calendar for news about activities and events.
  • ID101: This is a one-credit freshman seminar course designed for undecided students who want a more focused exploration experience. Contact your advisor for more information.
