Maintaining Your Computer
Sound Problems
Machine is making a constant beeping noise.

  1. There is probably a stuck key on the keyboard or something on the keyboard.  Make sure the keyboard is free of any foreign objects.  Try to determine which key is stuck (it will probably be lower than the rest of the keys) and press it a time or two and it should pop loose.
  2. Check the keyboard cable to make sure that it is plugged tightly into the back the of computer. Once the keyboard cable is plugged tightly into the back of the computer, shut down the computer and then turn it back on.

No sound is coming out of the speakers.

  1. Check to see that the speakers are turned on.  The speaker that has the audio controls on it should have a light to indicate that they are turned on.  If the light still does not come on, make sure that the speakers are plugged in.  If they plug into a power strip, make sure it is turned on.
  2. If the speakers are on and are plugged in, make sure that the cable that runs from the back of the speaker to the computer is plugged tightly into the computer.
  3. Have the user adjust the volume on the speakers to make sure that it is not turned down.
  4. If the things suggest above do not fix the problem, the mixer volume may be low.  The user can adjust this.

Adjust the Mix Volume

If the computer is a Windows machine:

  1. There should be a speaker icon in the lower right corner.  Have the user click it once.  A small screen will pop up.
  2. Make sure that there is no checkbox next to the word MUTE.   If there is, have the user click once in the white box.
  3. Check to make sure that the volume indicator is at the top.   If it is not, click on it and hold down the left mouse button and then drag it to the top.

If the computer is a MacIntosh:

  1. Point at the Apple icon in the upper left corner of the screen.  From the menu that pops up choose Control Panels, then choose Monitors and Sound, and then choose Sound.
  2. Make sure that there is no checkbox next to the word MUTE.   If there is, click once in the white box.
  3. There will be a scroll bar labeled user system volume.  The farther to the right the volume indicator is, the louder the sound will be.  Make sure that the indicator is not clear to the left.  If it is, click on it and hold down the mouse button and then drag it to the right.
