Computer technology is essential to many academic and administrative programs. While UCS manages the central computing resources relied on by many of these programs (such as BlackBoard, GradeBook and electronic mail) there may be a need or desire for an academic or administrative unit to host a server for a specialized applications peculiar to the needs or preferences of their discipline or administrative area. Such hosting requires a carefully planned and executed security strategy, as errant systems security creates the possibility of compromising information services across the entire university.
UCS Enterprise Systems Administration & Services provides server hosting. This service includes power, Ethernet and a 24 hour operations staff. If an academic or administrative unit would like to host a server then a Hosting Agreement must be completed. The Hosting Agreement provides a complete list of requirements required by both parties. The Hosting Agreement also includes identifying contacts whenever an issue or problem arises.
If you or your department is interested in hosting a server please contact Enterprise Systems Administration & Services.
