Emil Boulos (Lighting, scenic, projection designer, instructor, technician, painter, consultant) Emil has been a lighting, scenic and projections designer, production manager, master electrician, technician, painter, rigger and consultant in the Chicago theatrical community for over sixteen years. His recent credits include scenic design for Cabaret and lighting design for Big River at Elgin Community College, lighting design for Murderers, Bad Dates and Trying at The Boarshead Theatre in Lansing, Michigan; scenic design for The Last Days of Judas Iscariot at The Gift Theater and Victory Gardens, scenic design for the Jeff nominated production of Aristocrats at Strawdog Theatre; scenic design for The Search for Odysseus at The Vittum Theatre; lighting design for A Man for All Seasons, The Taffettas and Proof at Peninsula Players in Door County, Wisconsin; lighting design for Ragtime and The Changeling at Columbia College Chicago; lighting design for Faust at DuPage Opera Theatre; set design for Pagliacci and The Magic Flute for Opera Theatre of Highland Park; set design for Concerto Chicago at Victory Gardens; production management for Performing Arts Chicago; and paint work for Steppenwolf Theatre and the College of DuPage. He was, until May, 2008, a Professor of Lighting Design at the Theater Department of Columbia College Chicago, where he had taught for 14 years. Previous to that he was a teaching staff member (Technical Director) at Parkland College in Champaign, IL, for three years. Other production work of note includes lighting design for Don Pasquale at Virginia Opera Theatre; The Barber of Seville for Chicago Opera Theatre; Genesis at Pegasus Players and at The Dallas Theatre Center; scenography and lighting for Ubu Raw by Defiant Theatre (After Dark Award: Best Technical Production); lighting and puppet design for The Skriker also for Defiant (Joseph Jefferson Award: Best puppet/mask design), as well as lighting for four separate productions of Always…Patsy Cline at Northlight Theatre, the Apollo Theatre, Victory Gardens and Peninsula Players. His design work has also been seen at The Goodman Theater, Mary-Arrchie Theatre, Performing Arts Chicago, Loyola University, Redmoon Theatre, and American Theater Company, among others. Emil is a past member of the now defunct Defiant Theatre Company, and a current member of United Scenic Artists, local 829, and an adjudicator of lighting design applicants for the membership committee of the Central Region, USA829.
