INTERVIEW GUIDELINES
FOR
FINE ARTS SCHOLARSHIPS
IN
DESIGN/TECH, DIRECTING
AND/OR STAGE MANAGEMENT
The Department of Theatre and Dance encourages students who are interested in all production areas including directing, theatre education, costume design, lighting design, scene design, sound design, makeup design, stage management, theatre management, technicians, etc. to interview for the Fine Arts Scholarship Program.
- Prepare a resume that outlines your theatre activities (experiences). Include a portfolio or folder of materials which illustrates your work, if applicable. Renderings, models, drawings, sketches, prompt books, poster or program designs, and photographs are all appropriate. Many students present a loose-leaf notebook containing program copies and stage photographs for design/tech, directing, and/or stage management for each production they wish to document.
- Prepare a short purpose statement about what you want to do in the theatre. For example, if you wish to be considered for a design/tech scholarship, you should be able to clearly explain why you have a passion for design work and backstage as well as what skills and values you already have which will make you an effective student now and designer or technician later.
- Also, be prepared to discuss and answer questions about your portfolio, folder, purpose statement and experiences.
- You will be interviewed by Department of Theatre and Dance faculty and students. We want you to relax and feel at home in our department.
