Students in Ball State University's dance major are encouraged to audition for Ball State Dance Theatre, a student company that performs ballet, modern, ethnic, jazz, tap, and musical theatre choreography created by faculty members, guest artists, and students. The company presents two major dance concerts each year as part of the Department of Theatre and Dance's Mainstage Series in the 410-seat University Theatre.

The department also sponsors senior and junior choreography showcases, several individual student and faculty dance projects, and a minimum of two informal student choreography concerts each semester. Dance majors who are not members of Ball State Dance Theatre are encouraged to participate in the informal concerts. Dance students also may audition for the department's musical theatre performances.
