Students in Ball State University's design and technology option can apply theory to practice outside the classroom in the Department of Theatre and Dance production program. The production season includes the following:
- Mainstage Series: four theatre productions and two major dance concerts produced in the 410-seat University Theatre
- Actors Studio Series: three or four intimate productions presented in the Edward S. Strother Theatre, a 100-seat flexible black box theatre
- Workshop Series: variety of student productions presented in a 40-seat lab theatre
- Downtown Dinner Theatre: early summer production including dinner at the Cornerstone Center for the Arts
- Annual cinema production
Students actively participate in all phases of crewing assignments. Qualified upperclass design students are given the opportunity to design for studio and mainstage theatre and dance productions under faculty supervision.
Other production opportunities are available off-campus in the Muncie area, including Muncie Civic Theatre, one of the finest community theatres in Indiana. Paid and nonpaid off-campus internships for summer work are also encouraged.
