Musical Theatre Production Season
Students in Ball State University's musical theatre option are expected to participate in the Department of Theatre and Dance production program. The production season includes the following:

  • Mainstage Series: four theatre productions and two major dance concerts produced in the 410-seat University Theatre
  • Actors Studio Series: three or four intimate productions presented in the Edward S. Strother Theatre, a 100-seat flexible black box theatre
  • Workshop Series: variety of student productions presented in a 40-seat lab theatre
  • Downtown Dinner Theatre: early summer production including dinner at the Cornerstone Center for the Arts.
  • Annual cinema production

At least two departmental productions each year are musicals. Musical theatre students are not restricted to performing only in musicals. It is not unusual for a musical theatre student to perform a role in a non-musical or for an acting student to perform in a musical.

Musical theatre students are also encouraged to participate in non-Ball State productions in the Muncie area and are expected to earn internship credit by performing during the summer at summer stock theatres or theme parks. Special opportunities are available with Muncie Civic Theatre, one of the finest community theatres in Indiana.
