Many distance education courses are delivered via the Indiana Higher Education Television System (IHETS) to more than 400 receive sites via communications satellite. Increasingly, digital broadcasts and video archives are being provided via the Internet, as well. Registered students view these materials using personal computers with "broadband" Internet connections.
Ball State's video broadcast and archive data "streams" require minimum throughput of 200 kilobits per second (kbps) and cannot be properly viewed using a dial-up modem. A cable modem, Digital Subscriber Line (DSL, institutional Local Area Network (LAN) or other high speed Internet connection must be available in order to access the streaming video feeds.
Ball State's Distance Education Program Video Streaming FAQ Web page offers troubleshooting advice, online utilities for testing connection speeds, support numbers, and software download links for streaming video users.
