Q. How do I add a Watermark (Text: Draft, Confidential)?
A. There are times when you want text to appear faintly behind the content of your Microsoft Word document. For example, maybe you want the word "CONFIDENTIAL" printed faintly behind the text in a contract, or the word "DRAFT" printed at a 45-degree angle behind the text in a draft copy of a letter. In Word, this is called a watermark, and it's something that you can add to your document quickly and easily using the Printed Watermark dialog box.

Note   To add a watermark, you must be using a view other than Web Layout view.

To add a text watermark to your document

  • On the Format menu, point to Background and then click Printed Watermark.
  • Click Text watermark, and then select or enter the text that you want.
  • Select any additional options that you want, click Apply, and then click Close.
  • To view a watermark as it will appear on the printed page, on the View menu, click Print Layout.

To remove a text watermark from your document

  • On the Format menu, point to Background and then click Printed Watermark.
  • Click No watermark, and then click OK.
