Department of Industry and Technology
Master of Arts in Career and Technical Education
The master of arts in career and technical education program is offered 100 percent online. You don't need to leave your home or job to take a class or earn a degree.

Career and technical education covers a variety of fields. Most students in this program are teachers, either at the secondary school level (high schools or career and technical centers), the post secondary level (community college instructors), or in industry (as industrial trainers.) They teach in "trade and industry" areas, such as auto body repair, drafting, heating ventilating and air conditioning, carpentry, welding, plumbing, and many more. They prepare their students for specific occupations.

Designed for Teachers

The master's degree is designed to meet the needs of current career and technical teachers who want to build their knowledge and credentials. The program focuses on curriculum, instruction, research, and several other areas depending on the electives or optional track chosen by each students. The following optional tracks are offered:

  • Community College Faculty & Industrial Trainer Track
  • Administrative Track
  • Indiana CTE Teacher Track
  • Curriculum Track
  • Research Track

Programs may be customized by working with your advisor to select which of the core courses to take, and by choosing electives that fit one of these tracks, or your unique interests. All electives and transfer credits are subject to advisor approval. This program and its optional tracks do not provide teacher licensure; contact the program advisor and your state's licensing office for licensing concerns.
