Proposal Review Process for Schools Opening in Fall 2009
Proposal Review Process for Schools Opening in Fall 2009

In order to engage in a more thorough review process, the Office of Charter Schools is moving from a single, static timeline for reviewing charter proposal.  We will have two proposal review cycles during a given calendar year.

The process works as follows:

Preliminary Proposals must be received by the close of business on specific deadlines.  A team will review the Preliminary Proposals, conduct informal interviews and information sessions.  Meeting the deadline does not guarantee approval during the current review cycle.

Based on the Preliminary Proposal's quality, the Charter Schools Office will invite selected organizing groups to submit a Proposal to Charter during one of the defined cycles.  Decisions will be based on the completeness and quality of the submitted Preliminary Proposal.

Preliminary Proposals and Proposal to Charter Requirements.  We will be revisiting our requirements prior to each proposal cycle to see if any revisions are needed.  We will try to make any needed changes at least 60 days in advance of the submission deadlines so Organizing Groups will have time to make adjustments prior to deadlines.

The proposal cycle schedules for 2008 can be found on the left hand side on our website at www.bsu.edu/teachers/charter

The next cycle for Preliminary Proposal has a deadline of August 1, 2008.   Preliminary Proposals submitted by August 1, 2008 are required to meet revised requirements posted in May, 2008.
