Acknowledging that each school is accountable for its own students, the director and assistant director provide advice and guidance relative to statutory provisions of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004, as well as the companion federal and state regulations. The teacher coordinators provide support to teachers in the charter schools by explaining the use of special education specific forms, consulting on implementation of standards-based individual education plans, and best practice inclusionary strategies. The VSEC office also is the central repository for the required paperwork relative to students with identified special needs and acts as the liaison between the member schools and the Indiana Department of Education Division of Exceptional Learners.
While "Virtual" in name, the staff members are certainly "Visible" in their presence, especially through technology and, as necessary, in person.
