Accountability - NCATE

The National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) is the primary accreditation organization for educator preparation programs in the United States.  The Indiana Professional Standards Board (www.in.gov/psb) has a partnership agreement with NCATE (www.ncate.org).   In 2000, NCATE adopted program standards for both the Initial and Advanced Levels that must be met in order to be accredited at both the national and state levels. Standard 2 of the NCATE standards is the Unit Assessment System.  Programs that are not accredited may not recommend their candidates for licensure.  Annual updates on program status are reported to IPSB in October and to NCATE in the spring.  The reports produced since the last accreditation visits are available below.
