Ball State University's Teachers College has an outstanding reputation for producing knowledgeable teachers who are well-prepared for the classroom. Our programs meet the standards of the Division of Professional Standards (DPS) at the Indiana Department of Education and are accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

Students in our teacher education programs are engaged in school classrooms often beginning their first semester. They also participate in community service activities and have access to a wealth of resources and the latest technology.

We encourage our students to challenge themselves and to become the best teachers that they can be. It is because of these high standards that our graduates are highly regarded and recruited by school systems across Indiana and the Midwest.

Educational Studies
Majors in the Department of Educational Studies prepare you to be licensed to teach subjects like music, physical education, and art in all grades and to teach academic subjects math, science, and English in middle/junior high and high schools. You will take courses in you chosen subject area as well as courses in education and classroom management. Majors focusing on the use of technology in education are also offered.

Our elementary education programs prepare you to be a licensed teacher qualified to work in child care centers, preschools, and elementary schools. You will have many opportunities for classroom experiences throughout the program at Burris Laboratory School, a national model for primary and secondary education since its founding in 1929, and at other local schools.
