Indiana has entered into legal contracts with many states granting reciprocity for educational licenses. Such states agree to honor each other's licenses, subject to certain restrictions, making it easier for school personnel to obtain licenses in other states.

The agreements are specific to license types (see table below), apply only when the states involved have equivalent licenses, and are mandatory only for majors. Individual states may still impose other non-course requirements such as grade-point averages, specific degrees, passing specific tests, and meeting internship and/or experience standards for initial licenses.

It is important to note that the ability to obtain a license in another state is not solely dependent upon the interstate agreement. Applicants from non-agreement states frequently can obtain licenses in other states.
