Culture Shock: A New Student Organization for Supporters of Study Abroad

An exciting new student organization was formed at Ball State in 2002. The group, "Culture Shock", provides an outlet for study abroad returnees to share their experiences and promote international education. The name "Culture Shock" expresses the adjustment of arrival in a new country, as well as the adjustment of re-entry. The organization would like to focus not only on providing support for returnees of study abroad experiences, but also raising awareness of the importance of overseas study. The group's first big project was to create care packages for students studying alone overseas on exchange programs. This is a tradition the group would like to continue. There has also been an interest in raising money for study abroad scholarships. If you are interested in attending a meeting or helping with an event, please send an email to cultureshock@bsu.edu

Study Abroad Fair

Each year the Center for International Programs hosts a study abroad fair during the fall semester. Returnees are encouraged to help out with this event. We can show glossy brochures and fancy program descriptions, but nothing compares to real live students, sharing their personal experiences. This is the time to bring out the photos, cool souvenirs, scrapbooks, or whatever else you have gathered. You can spend time at a booth talking to students, help set up tables, or even plan a related event. In the past we have had art exhibits, panel discussions, and musical performances put on by returnees. Contact the Center for International Programs for more information.
