The Mediation/Conciliation Services was established in 1993 and has three areas of focus: (1) student mediation which focuses on conflicts between students, students and parents, students and teachers, relationship conflicts, and others such as neighbors or landlords; (2) university mediation which focuses on conflicts between university employees, departments, units and other parts of the university; and (3) community outreach which focuses on training community members and bringing conflict resolutions skills to neighborhoods and schools.
Mediation/conciliation is a problem solving and relationship reconciling process between two or more persons and neutral third party mediators that helps participants: identify the problem, confront the issues, listen with an open mind, treat a person's feelings with respect, identify multiple options for resolving the problem, select options, and take responsibility for implementing agreements.
